TIBA Day at the Capitol is an opportunity for local independent business owners to share their stories, build relationships with elected officials, and help lawmakers understand the issues affecting small businesses in our community.

Join us for lunch at the Kansas State Capitol as we look ahead to the 2027 Legislative Session and discuss concerns and opportunities important to Topeka’s independent business community.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT KANSAS LEGISLATORS

1. They are people just like us. They have families, businesses, jobs, and competing responsibilities while working to serve their constituents.
2. The goal is to build a relationship before you need to ask them to support or oppose a particular bill.
3. Legislators are not experts in every type of business. They rely on business owners to explain how proposed legislation may affect their businesses, employees, customers, and communities.

PARKING INFORMATION

Capitol Underground Parking Garage
The entrance is located on SW 8th Avenue between Harrison and Van Buren streets.

• Open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday
• Parking is free for two hours
• Garage clearance is 8 feet, 2 inches
• Elevators provide access from the garage to the Capitol security entrance

Metered street parking is also available on streets surrounding the Capitol for up to 10 hours.

ENTERING THE CAPITOL

All visitors must enter through the security entrance in the Kansas State Capitol Visitor Center on the north side of the building. Visitors will pass through a security screening similar to an airport security check.

From the ground-floor security checkpoint, take the public elevator or stairs to the second floor. Enter the north wing corridor and look for Room 218-N.

TIBA members, their employees, and guests are welcome. Whether you regularly follow state policy or are visiting the Capitol for the first time, this is a valuable opportunity to learn, make connections, and ensure the voice of independent business is heard.
